Are You Missing Obvious Backlinks?

Almost everyone knows backlinks are the cornerstone of any SEO campaign, yet many websites fail to collect the most obvious inbound links available. Almost every site imaginable has an untapped collection of links just waiting to be gathered. The key is to think outside the box and figure out what hidden links you might be missing.

For example, a site that offers resume help would be wise to reach out to sites that provide resources for resume writing. The secret is to compile a list of people who are already working in your target area, preferably those not in direct competition with you. Ask yourself: can this site use the information on my page to better serve their customers? If so, that site is a good candidate to approach for a backlink.

Libraries, career counselors and coaches, job placement centers, unemployment offices and headhunters all cater to the same audience as a resume help site. Why not compile a list of libraries, counselors and recruiters and then start sending e-mails to everyone on the list suggesting that they check out the site? The bigger the initial list, the more backlinks you’ll be able to collect from your e-mails. Although many people may not respond to your request at all, there will certainly be some recipients who are interested enough to take action and create a link to your page.

Tip: To sweeten the deal, consider offering a custom article to everyone who agrees to post a link. Almost every site could benefit from fresh, original content, which makes your offer difficult to resist. Best of all, if you provide an article you can include your link as anchor text, which is even more valuable than a regular link!
