What Are the “Organic” Listings on the Search Engines?
When you conduct an internet search on the internet, you will get two kinds of results. Some website listings will be called “organic”, and others will be referred to as “sponsored”. The websites that are sponsored listings have paid money to be shown in that position on the page, while the remaining listings are organic.
When you conduct a keyword search through a search engine, you will get a list of websites that appear in the wide column at the left hand side of the page. These website listings are called “organic” listings. Please note that the websites that appear in the yellow box at the top of the page are not organic — they are “sponsored” listings. Searchers usually have confidence in organic listings and will often opt for these links, depending simply on their standings. They often take the view that organic results may have more significance to their searches and represent a higher depth of variety.
In the past, search engines tried listing organic and sponsored listings together, but there was a public chorus of disapproval and the search engines decided to break up the two types of listings.
Now with both types of listings clearly separate, some research shows that the better result for the outlay of money is organic listings over paid listings. But with experience, you can learn how to utilize both types of listings to increase the number of visitors to your website.
Remember, it is a good idea to further educate yourself on these types of listings and how they can benefit your business.
